The Hundred Page Rule

Okay, here’s how it goes….

This seems harsh but ask yourself do you want to wade through a book with a sigh every time you pick it up and waste more hours of your life reading right to the end hoping that at some point you will like it.

Remember there are like all things in this world different literary tastes. Yours and yours and yours are probs different from mine. But one thing we can do to maximise our enjoyment of reading is the following.

So this is my approach. Read well and thoroughly until page 100. If the book has not grabbed your attention by then chances are it probably won’t.

Do not give up before page 100 though. If I had done this I wouldn’t have finished “Captain Corelli’s Mandolin” which I have to say I love with all my heart.

This approach will I guarantee you bring joy to your reading. It will ignite your passion for reading. The outcome will be that you will read many more books than you would if you persisted with a book not to your taste right up until that last problematic page.
